Michael Wolf is professor for doublebass at the Berlin University of the Arts. He was born in New Jersey, U.S.A., and began studying the doublebass at the age of nine. Afterwards, he studied music with Nathaniel Gangursky and became a member of the San Diego Symphony Orchestra. He received a Fulbright/DAAD and a Rotary-International scholarship, which brought him to Germany. Before he assumed his position in Berlin, he held a professorship for doublebass on the University of Mainz.

Book Reviews

Reviews of the doublebass method from Michael Wolf, "Principles of Doublebass Technique"

Published by Blaue Eule (ISBN 3-89206-358-3)

"Never in the history of the doublebass has there been such a comprehensive work covering the complete spectrum of performance on this instrument. Fundamental thoughts of this kind have already been made long ago for various other instruments; which is to say, this book for the doublebass is long overdue."

Das Orchester

"Everyone who plays the doublebass will find something in this book, that he didn't know, or knew intuitively and will now find confirmed. Since, in addition to that, this book is the only one of it's kind, it shouldn't be missing from anyone's music library."

The Bass

"This goal of an unhampered instrumental performance has been the main concern of theoretical and practical research in the field of instrumental pedagogy for years. Michael Wolf deliberately studied the relavent experiences of the upper strings and, taking the special requirements of the doublebass into consideration, incorperated these into his new method."
